1) convergence means: the occurrence of two or more things coming together

2) the term intelligent transportation system refers to efforts to add information and communications technology to transport infrastructure and vehicles in an effort to factors that are typically at odds with each other. Such as vehicles, loads, and routes to improve safety and reduce vehicle wear, transportation times, and fuel consumption.

3) it means that ITS wants to connect every vehicle and its user in a transportation system so that they can instantly locate or track them and share information. also that everyone will be able to quickly determine where the accidents and tie-ups are and what routes can be taken to avoid them. What this means for the average commuter is quicker drive times by the way of more efficient traffic patterns and planned out routes created for you in real time.

4) it matters because this kind of technology affects how the country’s transportations system works and since different countries donate different amounts they will have different transportation systems.

5) Radio-frequency identification

6) But put RFID chips on buses and subways, and the ramifications for mass transit are immense. If riders know in real time when the crosstown express will arrive, and get a text message update, they can plan trips more effectively. By outfitting buses with RFD connected to RouteShout riders could instantly be alerted of delays, detours and other issues.

7) When vehicles connect with a larger transportation network, you get the possibility of redirecting vehicles by creating alternate routes when traffic or crashes occur and potentially change the timing of signals to meet changing conditions. Commuters could be be given real-time updates and directions to less-congested roads, minimizing the time you spend idling in traffic.Such connectivity also could make finding a parking spot less of a hassle. By utilizing ITS, drivers can pinpoint what spaces are open from their mobile phones and in car navigation.

8 ) there will be less accidents and a lower death rate

9) i think roads will be a lot more organized and neat. there will be a lot less wrecks so there wont be as many cracks or damage on the roads. i think with that technology stop lights and signs will no longer be needed so the road will be clear of those things.
